URI CAINE

About Input Rossini

Like many children growing up in the 60’ and 70’s in the USA, my sister and I would often watch television after we came home from school. One of our favorite shows was The Lone Ranger, a TV show about a masked cowboy and his Indian sidekick and the theme music was The William Tell Overture. My father told us kids “Oh, that music is by Rossini” and i remember as a young child realizing then that someone actually wrote the music down for an orchestra to play.

Later i learned about more about Rossini’s music and his remarkable life. He came from a musical family and was a musical prodigy. He was a successful composer at a young age and his music was beloved by the public, first in Italy and later in Paris and throughout Europe. He was phenomenally productive composer but retired from composing early in his life and lived the rest of his days as a wealthy gourmand and host. Beethoven and Wagner met him and admired his music.Rossini’s music is full of melody, rhythmic energy and humor and is still beloved by the musical public today.
